Traveling in 2010

The forecast for travel in 2010 is that the prices are being reduced now for the busy travel times later in the year.

This is due to the travel industry attempts to get commitments early on in order to better predict their success as the year progresses.

It is to your advantage to look at purchasing any flights or cruises that you are thinking of now. It is most probably to your advantage to book now instead of waiting for the last-minute deals.

this was a good day to ride

Yesterday and today were good riding days although I didn't get a chance to go on a ride. A couple of my friends did and they said that it was great.

More printing and booking

We have collected a great deal of material for our new scrap book. Some friends came by to stay on their way and we were able to visit with them, then -- back to the book.

I just printed out the last content and LaFonda is putting the pages together with the pictures. It's a very nice layout.

Valentine's day weekend

The rooms are really booked up!

I met with some of my friends for breakfast this morning and had some good conversation.

Summer wants to take her family for the weekend, but there just aren't any spots that I have available for them. I think it is because it is Valentine's weekend.

Ezine Article published

I managed to publish another article with Ezine Articles.

It was the September of 2009. I remember getting a call from my wife. She had just opened the mail and found an advertisement for a cruise for four nights for $299.00 each. Wow! The ship was to depart from and return to Seattle.

Saving Money while Doing More

I just wrote up a Squidoo article talking about how to upgrade your stateroom while on a cruise without spending the same amount you would have if you would have ordered the cruise with that level of stateroom to start with.

Luxury Cruise Vacations: Blog entry #9

Luxury Cruise Vacations: Blog entry #9

A Time of Growth

Pistols N Princesses

Blog entry #9

I am just writing this blog to show my daughter that she doesn't have to try to think of something witty every time it's time to write a blog. That way, you can just start writing without expectations.

After you start writing, sometimes things come to mind that didn't before and the sentences just start going on and on. And, sometimes you start writing and before you know it, nothing really interesting has been written. But it doesn't matter.

I am really jealous of Helen and Summer on their ability to write things things in such a nice witty way.

But it isn't a requirement and I am allowing myself to be free from that requirement -- Right now!

Their blogs (not necessarily in an order of preference):

A (very) little R&R

Well, tomorrow I am not going to work. No reason except to just stay home and I have vacation coming from work.

This morning I met with some of my friends for breakfast and we talked about the new tax situation here in Oregon. I don't know if Oregon is the only state that taxes on the gross for businesses. This means, even if a business loses money, they pay taxes to Oregon. This is probably well thought out. Just a way to reduce the employment rates a little and push businesses into other states like Washington.

Warm for January

Well. It is warm for January here in the Williamette Valley in Oregon. But, it is still winter and I still long for the warm beaches afforded to me while cruising in Hawaii, Mexico or the Bahamas.

On my way to work and even on my way back, I considered how nice it would be setting back and enjoying the view and the warm sea breezes on one of these cruises.

Here is a link to some luxury cruise specials I have on my web site.

What about that Canada?

I really do wonder, myself, what it would be like to go to the Winter Olympics. The main thing I think of is, "cold".

I really like to vacation in warm, dry climates. That's why, if I were to go somewhere this winter, I would probably head south much sooner than I would head north.

In any case, I would certainly take my passport with me and I wouldn't need a VISA to get into either country. I am not thinking of going any further south than Mexico, of course.

Passports and All That

I have been writing about passports lately because I found a site that will expedite passports and VISA's at a fairly reasonable rate.

I know of people who don't really believe in passports. I think that comes from being in this world for a longish amount of time. I know that one day, I was in southern California with my wife (who is not writing this blog). We decided to go into Mexico to get something to eat. We parked the car, took the kids out and put some of them in strollers and walked across the border.

I don't know if I needed ID to cross into Mexico. I do know the children didn't. Getting back was the same. LaFonda and I probably showed our ID to the border patrol and said, "These are our girls." That was all that was needed in the '80s.

Since then, we have had plenty of people attempting to blow up airplanes, and have been successful in attacking us when they destroyed two very large buildings full of people in the middle of New Your city. Our days of trusting is over. The innocence of traveling between countries has gone -- even between us and our close neighbors, Canada and Mexico.

When we leave our country and don't have proper identification, we may be able to get back. If we can, it may be easy or it may be difficult and expensive. But, if we have the proper identification, there will not be a problem coming back home from just a little jaunt over the border.

Cuise Vacations -- Real Vacations

Of all the reasons I love being on a cruise a major one is that it is really a vacation for me! Our first cruise was truly my first real vacation.

Usually when we go on vacation there is still so much work involved (and I'm not counting camping as a vacation). My husband, friends and I have taken a few vacations. We have had a really good time but I always come home exhausted.

Even when we went to Hawaii for our two-week vacation, I ended up cooking several meals while there. Which means I had to take "vacation time "to plan a menu, grocery shop, prepare the meal and yes -- then there is clean up!

But when we have chosen to cruise for vacation, the only thing I have to do is unpack my luggage. That's it! Everything else is done for me.

On our first cruise, when I opened my luggage I found that all of the clothing that I had spent all that time ironing was in great need of being re-ironed. This, however, was not a problem. The cruise ship had a care-free laundry service on board. I simply put the clothing that needed to be pressed on a hook in our room and the very next day they were delivered looking better than they had when I packed them.

So on the next cruises we've gone on, I simply didn't iron my or my husband's chothes before packing. When we got to our stateroom I simply used their laundry service. We were so surprised at how inexpensive it was. My husband is the one who suggested we just let them press the clothing once we are on board. We even send our formal wear out and it comes back beautifully pressed.

Each stateroom is personally attended by a ship's stateroom attendant. We were so impressed with how well they cleaned and prepared our room. The stateroom attendants were amazing! We have always been surprised by how friendly they are and how tidy they keep our room.

We have had both Balcony and Ocean view staterooms. We found that they were both great! I think that if we were taking a cruise to warmer climates we would probably prefer the balcony room. When we took a cruise to the Bahamas we loved eating on our balcony. It was wonderful being in the sunshine, hearing the water as it rushed by the ship and all from the privacy of our personal fresh-air balcony. It was really a treat to order room service and have a beautifully prepared meal brought to our room. This, of course never costs extra. Really! Some mornings we decided to have breakfast in bed instead of going out of our room. We enjoyed that as well. It's really nice to have the ability to make these kinds of choices without being charged extra.

We were a little wary of getting and "ocean view" room. Was it just some room down in the ship that had a small glass hole in the side? We found that the ocean view rooms were way beyond our expectations. They were spacious and we loved being able to see out the large windows and to have all the day light come in. We would definitely make this choice again, we were not at all disappointed. After all it comes with the same great service, making our vacation really a vacation!

All this and pampered too!

Just one of the things that I loved on one of our latest cruises was being treated to a trip to the amazing day spa that was on board our incredible ship!
We received a flyer in our room stating that the on board Day Spa was offering some Pampering Packages. I thought it sounded great. My sweet husband took advantage of the offer and surprised me by setting up an appointment for me to go and be pampered.( As if the cruise its self wasn't enough.)

Upon arriving to the day spa, I was given a soft white robe to change into, and then I was presented with a chilled glass of sparkling champagne. I was given some time to relax while enjoying the tastes of chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne. There was no rush to continue with the sauna. I was told to take my time. When I was ready, I could go in and enjoy the sauna for as long as I liked. I did enjoy being in the sauna. I found it to be quite relaxing. Afterward, I was able to take a shower before my massage started.

When I was already relaxed and ready, my masseuse came for me. She took me into a beautifully decorated room where peaceful quite music was being played. She then asked me a few questions about the massage I would be receiving; she offered a deep tissue massage or a relaxation massage. I choose the deep tissue massage. She told me to go ahead and get ready and she would be right back.

Within just a few minutes my massage began. At this point I was whisked away to a place of tranquil, relaxation. She used some delightful aromas to enhance the already stress free and care free environment.

The massage was unbelievable and it was an hour long. I can't express how pampered I felt. I would have to say that this was one of the most favorite surprises my husband has given me. I would encourage anyone who takes a cruise to take advantage of the special offers given by the Day Spa. It is a sure way to make the one you love feel pampered!
